The World in Which I Live

Musings from my life – poetry and prose

If I had stopped on that fateful day
If I had just stopped, let you have your say
Would you be here with me?
Or would you still be so far away?

I saw your face behind the glass
I knew I couldn’t pass
You knew too much, I couldn’t hide.
So I said three words “not a chance”

I drove away, praying you couldn’t see
The truth of what had become of me
Just a block away, I pulled over
I cried the tears of shame and grief.

You never came back after that day
I never forgave myself for sending you away.
I would change those three words
If only I could have my say.
